(Note: This article is part of digitaldeepak internship assignment-2. Here we learned about the importance of customer avatar and how to become a better marketer)

How many times you have to learn something again because you forgot what you learned? You read some self-help book but after a few days of completing it, you totally forgot what did you learned.

The reason is simple for this. The information in our brain is like puzzle pieces. they need to be arranged to get the meaning for it.

The only way to join those pieces is to practice a lot. when you practice, again and again, then neurons in our brain form a stronger connection. The more neurons are wired together, the easier it is to perform the task for you.

whats the best way to practice something? Teach! yes, teaching helps you come out of your comfort zone and make you understand things from other's points of view. You need to teach, teach in a way that even an 11-year-old can understand.

So, if you want to learn something, teaching is the best way to learn. Learn a new skill, apply in your own life and then teach others to remember it.

Marketing is all about good conversation:

Whenever someone is buying a product service, one is taking a risk of his money. we all buy things every day, and we want the best return for it. Who would you trust more? a random person or a close friend? It is a no brainer answer. the friend.

because we already have a trust factor with our friends. So if you are a marketer and need to sell something, you need to first gain the trust of your consumer. without trust, there cannot be a transaction between you.

Converse with your potential customer as a friend. Converse like you are speaking to him 1 to 1. if you cannot converse with him 1 to 1, you cannot converse with many.

People are tired of fake people in their life. you, me and everyone else is tired of it. We can sense if the person is having a different persona, overly fake. these kinds of things make us pull away from that person.

Be authentic, be real. Be confident in yourself. you might feel awkwardness initially but people are attracted to realness. people will trust you if you are authentic.

Be a Better Marketer:

People will more life experience has more potential to be a better marketer. You can make people understand things from a different perspective. something very unique to you. so go and learn a new language, travel or learn something new and be a better marketer.

Specify your buyer persona:

At the end of the day you need to make sales, no matter how good your communication is, if you don’t make sales, you cannot grow. So who is your audience? not everyone. if everyone is your audience then no one is your audience.

You need to define the buyer persona to target your products. you need to understand his demographics and psychographic. whether one has a high income or low income, so you can understand his purchasing power.

Do small research or survey to find out the buyer persona. it need not be perfect, just start and you can improve over time. once you are done, just start marketing them in the following ways.

  1. Always write like you are talking to a single person:
Though you might be having a large audience, everyone is alone with their smartphone or laptop. they need to feel you are communicating with them one to one. like a friend.
  2. Join their mental conversation:
Keep this straight. no one cares about you, your product or services. they only care about themselves. they have their own problems dealing with it. just join with them
Show them how can you solve their problem with your products and services.
  3. Email and messenger are powerful than social media:
While interacting in email and messenger, the communication is only between you and the reader. there is no third person. this makes it extremely private space. when in private, people are more open and trustful.
There is no fear of judgment like in social media. people see what you judge or post.
  4. Make your content flow like a butter:
your reader is full of distraction, you need to make your reader glued at every sentence. or else you lose the attention. Attention is the currency of the digital world. the more you have, the more money you make.
PS: I am improving my content writing skills:)
  5. Address people with their first name:
everyone loves their name. it makes us feel proud. Dale Carnegie said the name is the sweetest thing a person can hear. So make sure you communicate with the first name of the person.
  6. Write an email like a friend:
as said above, email is a very private space. gain the trust of the reader like you are talking to a friend. it builds up a connection
  7. Know your target audience:
do research and survey to find out your target audience.following is the survey I did for my blog about home appliances and these are the results.

I have done my own survey, you can look into my survey questions by clicking here

The survey is based on consumer behavior for buying appliances for their homes. Based on the survey, here are the result

71% of my audience prefers to pay by a digital medium. The most common item they have bought is Personal care appliances like trimmers or hairstyling kit.

64% of the audience worry about receiving damaged or fake products. Since they are buying a high priced appliance worth Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000- their worry is not unusual.

This shows there are still trust issues while buying products online. This issue is common in all age groups.

My customer avatar is someone who purchases high-value products like TV, AC or other home appliances, but still has issues on selecting the right product within the right budget. And also need trustworthy sources for selecting the right product

Customer avatar gives you an idea of what problems you can solve for your consumer. Solving their problems via content will build trust. Trust is good for branding.

Session 2 covered a few more fundamentals for marketing and human psychology.
